Job description

A position as postdoctoral research fellow is available at the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo, in the research group of Professor Rafal Ciosk.

The candidate for this position will have interest in molecular mechanisms regulating mRNA fate and/or adaptation to cold, using the nematode C. elegans and mammalian cells as models. The project will involve analysing mutants, generating transgenic animals and analysing them with molecular, cellular and biochemical tools. Mammalian cells will be used for examining conservation and dissecting molecular mechanisms. For more information, see the research group’s home page.

The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.

More about the position

The appointment is a fulltime position and is made for a period of up to three years (10% of which is devoted to required duties, usually in the form of teaching activities).

Starting date: 01.01.2021, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition is to be among Europe’s leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

• Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in relevant area. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English

Preferred candidates should have:

• Experience in at least two of the following areas: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology and imaging. Hands-on experience with genetic models (preferably C. elegans), and cell culture, will be favored.
• Demonstrated independence and competitive publication track record.

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and diligent candidate, with the ambition to publish in leading journals. A successful candidate must have good interpersonal skills and be willing to work with the project PI, lab members and collaborators.
