Job description

Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow available at the Department of Mathematics.

No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo. Starting date no later than 31.12.2020.

The appointment is a fulltime position and is made for a period of up to two years. The position is devoted to carrying out a project entitled Spatial-Temporal Uncertainty in Energy Systems (SPATUS). SPATUS is a Thematic Research Group funded by UiO:Energy, and managed by the Department of Mathematics and in collaboration with the Department of Technology Systems.

The successful candidate will work on new space-time random field models for modelling of weather variables, and develop theory for these with the purpose of analysing energy systems related questions. The methods will rest on infinite dimensional stochastic analysis, including random sets. Questions related to the optimal design of energy systems meeting sustainability targets will be studied. The position offers a unique possibility to work in the interaction between mathematics and green energy systems.

The research will be in collaboration between the Departments of Mathematics and Technology Systems (professors Fred Espen Benth and Marianne Zeyringer, respectively, will act as mentors). Please see https://www.mn.uio.no/math/english/research/projects/spatus/ for a detailed description of the SPATUS Thematic Research Group and its scientific project.

The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.
