The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.
Do you want to be an ERC-funded Postdoctoral fellow in human microbiome research, taking a lead in the translation to clinical practice?
One position is available as Postdoctoral fellow (SKO1352) - a 3-year engagement – affiliated with The Norwegian PSC Research Center (NoPSC) at Institute of Clinical Medicine – funded by an ERC grant.
NoPSC - a cooperation between University of Oslo (UiO) and Oslo University Hospital (OUH) - is dedicated to research on the chronic liver disease primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). Several features make PSC an intriguing model disease; more than 80% of the patients have inflammatory bowel disease, for which the link with the biliary inflammation is poorly known, and the disease may recur after liver transplantation. The center comprises three research groups covering all aspects of research related to primary sclerosing cholangitis, from basic genomic and experimental studies to clinical research and clinical trials. The research environment is world-leading for PSC and counts 20-25 engaged researchers from several countries and specialties.
We are now seeking a skilled and ambitious co-worker to take on a challenging project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant “StopAutoimmunity”, which focuses on gut microbial functions in recurrent PSC after liver transplantation. The research group, led by Dr. Johannes Hov, has over the last 6 years established a strong clinical microbiome research environment. In the present project, the use of metagenomics and metabolomics will provide insights into a unique disease model to identify driving factors amenable to treatment. The candidate should have an ambition to form an independent research track, and will be offered opportunities to do so.
More about the position
The Postdoctoral fellow will be employed at Norwegian PSC Research Center, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo and work in the environment of the Research Institute of Internal Medicine, Division of Surgery, Inflammatory Diseases and Transplantation, University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital.

Qualification requirements
- Applicants must hold a relevant PhD
- Experience with microbiome or metabolomics research is an advantage
- Experience with relevant bioinformatic and statistical methods (including R) or multi-omics is an advantage but not a prerequisite
Personal skills
- Well organized with high working capacity and productivity
- Strong motivation for a career in science, including project management and scientific writing.
- Excellent writing and oral communication in English
Personal suitability for the position will be emphasized and taken into account.

- Salary NOK 532 300 – NOK 615 900 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow (position code 1352)
