Job description

The position is a four-year, non-tenured research position with a 25 % teaching requirement. This means that 75 % of the working time over four years is devoted to research. In Norway, postdoctoral fellowships are fixed-term appointments for up to four years, primarily intended to qualify candidates for a career in academia. As such, it is best suited as a first job after obtaining a PhD. The position is partly financed by the Research Council of Norway grant StREP – The Strategy of Recorded Voting in the European Parliament, headed by Professor Bjørn Høyland. The project aims to assess the effects of roll call requests on voting behavior, coalition formation and voting outcomes in the European Parliament. Read more about the project here. StREP will be part of the Department’s internationally leading research group on Comparative Institutions and Regimes (CIR).Successful applicant must be prepared to teach Bachelor’s and Master’s level courses within the Department’s course portfolio as well as tutor Master’s students.

Qualification requirements and personal skills

Applicants will be assessed based on scientific merits and personal suitability. Priority is given to candidates with research interest in theoretical, methodological and empirical aspects of legislative politics, in particular politics in the European Parliament. Further, candidates with experience from empirical implications of theoretical models (EITM) and good R-programming skills are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates must have submitted their doctoral dissertations for evaluation by the closing date in order to be considered. A prerequisite for taking up the position is the successful completion of a doctoral degree.Postdoctoral fellows who are appointed for a period of four years are expected to acquire “basic pedagogical competency” in the course of their fellowship period within the duty component of 25 %.
