The Institute of Health and Society (Helsam) offers 1-2 permanent, full position as Associate Professor in Health Economics. Tenure is linked to the Institute, but the current position will be allocated to the Department of Health Management and Health Economics (HELED).

HELED is a multidisciplinary department, consisting mostly of economists, social scientists and medical doctors, and conducting research in the fields of health economics, health management and health policy, and public health. HELED is organized in four research groups (see website). The department is responsible for PhD training, the teaching of medical students in quality, leadership and knowledge management, and four discrete study programs: a bachelor’s degree program in Health Management and Health Economics (taught in Norwegian), two master’s degree programs; (both taught in English), and an executive master’s degree program in Health Administration (taught in Norwegian).

HELED is strengthening its research and teaching in health economics. We offer 1-2 full position(s) as associate professor with qualifications in health economics.

Qualification requirements

For Associate Professor:

• Doctoral degree or equivalent academic qualifications with knowledge in economics and/or health economics.
• Educational competence will count positively. Applicants who do not have documented basic university pedagogical competence must acquire this within two years from appointment.
• Documentation of qualifications in dissemination, management and administration will count positively.
• Good communication skills both written and oral in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) are a prerequisite for performing all the tasks associated with the position. Applicants who are not competent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish must acquire such competence within two years subsequent to their appointment, and must be competent in English in the interim period.

The following qualifications will count in the assessment of the applicants:

In the ranking of competent applicants, the whole range of qualifications shall be considered, assessed and explicitly ascribed weight. Particular emphasis will be attached to applicants' scientific publications during the past five years and that are closely related to the area in which the post is advertised. Hiring procedures are regulated in "Rules for appointing Professors and Associate Professors”.

• Description of up to 10 scientific publications which the applicant considers particularly noteworthy. NB: The same 10 publications uploaded as PDF-files (preferably combined into one file but maximum 10 MB) and a brief account of these
• An educational portfolio, providing a total and systematic presentation of the applicant`s educational and teaching qualifications including a reflection note in which your own practice and learning vision is anchored in the SoTL criteria (focus on student learning, development over time, a research approach and a collegial attitude and practice)
• Overview of experience in supervising PhD candidates, including names of the candidates, period of supervision, information on institutions and dates for the presentation of the theses, as well as specific information regarding experience as main- or co-supervisor for each candidate
• Description of qualifications in dissemination, management and administration
• A future research plan describing the applicant's scientific ambitions for the position and integration into ongoing research/teaching activities at the department. See the Department’s research groups here
• PhD Diploma and references
• References (list of 2-3 persons with name, title, email and phone number)

Interviews will be held and references collected. Applicants will also be required to give a research seminar for the Department and possibly also a trial lecture for the Department’s students.
