The Institute of Health and Society is one of three institutes at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo. The Institute covers various disciplines and consists of six departments: General Practice, Health Sciences, Health Management and Health Economics, Medical Ethics, Community Medicine and Global Health and Nursing Science.


The Institute of Health and Society bases its work on a complex understanding of disease, health and health systems. Culture, environment, economics, society and biology play direct and indirect roles. Our teaching responsibilities include seven Master’s programs, one Bachelor program and part of the Faculty’s medical school and PhD-program. We employ about 220 FTE and have almost 700 Bachelor and Master students. Annual income is about 200 mill NOK, half of which is external funding. Our researchers play an active part of public policy and disseminate new knowledge through many channels.

Job description

An 80% position as biostatistician (researcher) is available in the Clinical Effectiveness Research group, Institute of Health and Society, University of Oslo, and Oslo University Hospital (OUS), Norway. The position is at Department of Health Management and Health Economics at the Institute of Health and Society, University of Oslo.

The position is available from September 1 2020 to December 31 2021, with an opportunity for extension.

With the vacant statistician position, we seek to further improve our exceptional research track record. We will include the statistician in ongoing and future research projects that are conducted by the research environment, including planning of new studies, data collection, data analyses and publication.

The individual appointed will work together with researchers and partners on several different projects.

The Clinical Effectiveness Research group is a young, innovative and dynamic research group that utilizes its unique expertise in clinical and epidemiological research to organize large studies related to gastroenterology, cancer screening and surveillance, and clinical epidemiology. Qualification requirements

Applicants should hold a Doctoral degree in biostatistics and have extensive experience in clinical trial and epidemiology statistics in the medical fields that the group is working in.

The ideal candidate has a strong CV, experience in research-related statistics, good cooperative, administrative and communicative skills, and an outstanding potential.
