Job description

One 20 % position is available as a Researcher (SKO1109) - a two-year engagement – affiliated with The Norwegian PSC Research Center (NoPSC) at Institute of Clinical Medicine.

NoPSC - a cooperation between University of Oslo (UiO) and Oslo University Hospital (OUH) - is dedicated to research on the chronic liver disease primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). Several features make PSC an intriguing model disease; more than 80% of the patients have inflammatory bowel disease, for which the link with the biliary inflammation is poorly known, and the disease may recur after liver transplantation. The center comprises three research groups covering all aspects of research related to primary sclerosing cholangitis, from basic genomic and experimental studies to clinical research and clinical trials. The research environment is world-leading for PSC and counts 20-25 engaged researchers from several countries and specialties.

We are now seeking a skilled and ambitious co-worker who is an experienced researcher in clinical microbiota medicine for a part time position in the group. The research group, led by Dr. Johannes Hov, has over the last 7-8 years established a strong clinical microbiome research environment. In the present project, the use of metagenomics and metabolomics and clinical trials will provide insights into a unique disease model to identify driving factors amenable to treatment.

The tasks of the position are primarily to contribute to planning and implementation on projects related to PSC and recurrent PSC (including co-supervision of project co-workers when relevant), serve as contact point and advisor to relevant collaborating groups at Oslo University Hospital and other institutions, and to contribute to other clinical microbiota medicine related projects in the group according to capacity.

Start date: September 1. st 2020.

Qualification requirements

• Applicants must be and MD and hold a relevant PhD
• Experience with studies of microbiota in human disease using 16S rRNA profiling and shotgun sequencing
• Experience with human clinical trials related to microbiome research

• Well organized with high working capacity and productivity
• Strong motivation for a career in science, including project management and scientific writing.
• Excellent writing and oral communication in English

Personal suitability for the position will be emphasized and taken into account.

• Salary NOK 542.4000 - 667.200 in 100 % (61-72) per annum depending on qualifications in position as Researcher (position code 1109)

The researcher will be employed at Norwegian PSC Research Center, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo and work in the environment of the Research Institute of Internal Medicine, Division of Surgery, Inflammatory Diseases and Transplantation, University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital.
